Have you ever felt like if you picked up one more stuffed animal off the playroom floor your head might burst? I have...and I do. I'm not sure why some days I am calm as a clam and have patience beyond what I thought I could. Then there are days like today, I am off and I am annoyed. I am annoyed that I have asked my girls what seems like 10 times to pick up their playroom or to put their clothes in the hamper. So, you know what? I left the playroom a mess and I did not put their dirty clothes in the hamper while straightening up today. Nope, I'm not doing it...I am letting them see their messy rooms tonight and before they will receive a bedtime story their rooms must be clean. I can understand my two and possibly my four year old needing reminders but there is no reason I should have to remind my seven year old to put her clothes in the hamper.
We had a chore chart that I have to honestly say we didn't keep up with. Nor did we keep up with the allowance. I think that needs to come back into play. I like a clean house, yes sometimes I am even a crazy cleaning Mama. I don't know why. Maybe it is a way I take out frustrations, who knows. I like when I come in and can smell a clean house. Even though with three kids, a dog oh and... a husband...it doesn't stay clean very long. In my own weird way, it makes me happy even if it's only a fleeting moment =)
My four year old said something today that made my heart smile. I know she heard it at school because I think she may have the world's best teacher this year. I just LOVE her preschool. Not only is she learning a lot, she is learning about being a polite, young lady. Now... believe me she is a normal four year old and there are days when I think she has grown devil horns. Not today though. We went to the track when I picked her up from school. It is a gorgeous 75 degree day here and I was dying to get some outdoor exercise. So, I walk / jog the track while the two little ones play on this huge pole vault mat. They love it because they can jump and tumble while watching Mom run. Well, after my run today I thanked them for being so well behaved and letting Mommy get some exercise. I said, "you girls were very patient, so we'll go to the playground." My four year old says, "Mom, being patient is pleasing to God." My response, "Yes, honey it is." while my heart is just beaming. I love moments like that. So, as I sit here calming down from my frustrations of the girls not cleaning up after themselves. I will think about earlier today when I was so happy and proud. Ahh......yes, the fleeting moments of parenthood.
