Did you ever have a moment when you realized that you weren't being completely honest with yourself? Those moments are not easy. It brings up all types of emotions- disappointment, anger, sadness and discouragement. You know what? It can all be reversed. We all have the power within us to change our circumstances.
There are many things that are out of our control. We don't know what life is going to have in store for us tomorrow. We may wake up and have a life changing event. What we can control is how we react to these events. We have to try our best to stay positive and focus on our goals.
I've got a list of goals the length of my arm...at the top of that list for me is my health. I have days where I don't have the motivation to exercise or days when I just want to eat whatever my body craves. When I do this, I am not being honest with myself because I REALLY want to get healthier and back in shape. Of course it's hard...I love sweets. I love salty treats...I just really like to eat good food. I enjoy going out to eat with my husband or with my family. My goal is not to give these up; my goal is to be able to do these things because I am also exercising enough to keep the weight off. After three kids and truly not sticking to an exercise regimen for an extended amount of time (for various reasons-injuries or just pure laziness) I have a lot of work to do. I know I can do it. It's not going to be easy and I'll probably complain a lot through out the process. I will do it...I am going to get there. I have no choice. This is something that I CAN control.
When I was at the gym this morning I was torn. I was tired, and my legs were sore. I looked at the clock and I had 5 minutes left on the treadmill. I wanted so badly to slow down and walk. The angel on my shoulder said to keep going I will feel so much better. The devil said you've had a good workout...slow down. I listened and I kept going....
Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal. ~Henry Ford
I'm learning to jump right over those obstacles. Starting today, starting now!
