My alarm went off at 5:50am, the kids were up at 6:10am, the bus arrived on time and now the house is quiet with only my youngest here. My older two girls are off on their first day of school. Is it just me or does the first day of school hold a bit of anxiety even for parents? I know they will both do fine and will have a fantastic year. Although, when we walked out to the bus stop this morning I had a flittering of butterflies in my stomach. Why my stomach? Then my mind started thinking, "Will my first grader find her classroom okay? Did I remember to pack them enough snacks and lunch? Did I send in all the signed papers they need?" My head was spinning and it wasn't even 7:00am!
I'm thinking to myself, "I have been secretly counting down this day for the past week why am I nervous now?" Then it hit me. Let it go...they are fine and after last week I am SO ready for this day. Off I went to the gym for my much needed workout. Now I am sitting here getting work done, the laundry is in and there is only a small amount of background noise....Ahh, yes school has started and this Mama is ready again for our school year routine.
If there were no schools to take the children away from home part of the time, the insane asylums would be filled with mothers. ~Edgar W. Howe
