Today I took my 4 year old for her well check visit. At 4 years old they get four immunizations. No fun at all... I told her this morning we were going to the doctor. I thought it was better to prep her instead of just springing a not so pleasant surprise at the last minute. Let me tell you, she is one brave little girl. She asked if I would hold her hand but other than that, she was not upset at all. Her lip quivered and her eyes teared up but that was it. I was so proud of her and quite impressed with her bravery.
Doesn't watching your children get their shots make you feel so helpless? While we know it is the right thing to do; it is still so hard to watch it happen. My oldest is VERY nervous about the doctors and especially shots. I will never forget when she was about 3 years old and it was time to get her flu shot. It must have been when the H1N1 scare was happening because it was a series of two shots. The first time wasn't so bad because we didn't tell her what was taking place. Oh, but the second time was another story. She was so worked up and we weren't even in the building. She remembered that she had a shot there and well, that was all it took. We were practically dragging her in and then of course we had to wait to be seen. By the time the nurse came in, she was in full fledge flight mode. The nurse asked who was going first, us or my daughter. We said my daughter so she could get it over with. Well, with that she takes off and bolts down the hallway like lightening. It was hilarious (Although, I probably didn't think so at the time). Of course we had to then grab her and start over.
I think my 2 year old is going to follow in her big, big sisters shoes. She was staring down the doctor pretty hard today and it wasn't even her turn. Lucky me! At least one is brave so far :-)
Hope ya'll are having a great Monday!
