I hope ya'll had a nice, relaxing weekend and enjoyed your Memorial Day. We had a great time with friends and family. Only 4 days of school left YAY!!!
Being a parent is hard. Teaching children to be honest does not seem to be so difficult. Kids will just blurt out whatever comes to mind. Doesnt it always seem to be at the worst possible time too?
Today I had Caroline and Sofia with me while grocery shopping. That in itself is a chore. I load up my purse with goldfish, cheerios and water bottles in hope that I avoid meltdowns. We were strolling along smoothly, everyone was happy and full of goldfish.
We get to the checkout and there is a LONG line. So, we start playing I spy. Well, there is a man in front of us and an older woman behind us in line. It is Caroline's turn to go. She says, "I spy with my little eye something red." We go through 3-4 items and she is saying, "No, Mama keep guessing." Then in a very LOUD voice she says "It's that old lady's shirt!!!" Well, now it was my face that was red. I was embarrassed and said, "Caroline that is not nice, you may hurt someone's feelings." She says "Mama, I am just telling the truth." There you have it folks!
What do you say to that? I know she is telling the truth and I'm thankful she is honest. Teaching her and the other girls empathy, and timing is not so easy. Marianna is old enough to understand when something is not appropriate. Caroline is still a work in progress. Thankfully, the woman didn't seem to be paying attention to us.
It reminded me of the TV show, Kids Say The Darndest Things. I was young when that show was on, but I remember how funny it was. Now, I have my own live episode whenever I wish :-)
