Magic Ball

I wish I had a magic ball to tell me why my 2 year old is not sleeping AT ALL.  Wednesday night she didn't want to go to sleep.  After about 4 times of us going in, saying "nighty night" and a quick rub of her back, she finally fell asleep.  Then, something scared the dog around 12:30am, and she barked and woke everyone up.  The older two girls went right back to sleep.  Not our 2 year old.  She screamed and cried.  Finally, my husband took her in the guest room and slept with her there.  We are at a loss on what to do.  We try to let her cry a bit so that she can learn to put herself back to sleep.  Not working!  She ends up waking up her sisters as well.  Then, we take the approach of bringing her to the guest room.  That works, but we do not like it because we are reinforcing negative behavior and teaching her it is okay to wake up every single night.  She isn't sick, she isn't teething, she just is not sleeping!!! We have an appt with the ENT Monday to see if there is anything happening with her ear tubes.  Maybe that is it?  We ordered a big girl bed thinking maybe her toddler bed is not comfortable anymore.  If when her bed arrives and she still doesn't sleep, I will be at my wits end.

Has anyone experienced this with their children?  Any advice, suggestions etc?  She is happy as a clam in the morning while Mommy and Daddy are wondering how we are going to make it through the day!  Sleep is not overrated :-)

Sorry no Fabulous Friday Find this week, but enjoy your Friday and I hope it is FABULOUS!!!

Oh, we've gone through this and I really feel for you. It's rough! My daughter is almost 3 now, but earlier this year we had this problem. She wasn't falling asleep easily and was waking up a couple times a night. We went to the dr and ended up addressing it behaviorally and it worked for us. It took some work and some planning, but I came up with a specific bedtime routine and a reward chart for good bedtimes. We also made the switch from toddler bed to twin bed and that has helped, too.

That post has the charts and more explanation.

I hope you find a solution that works for all of you soon. That lack of sleep is killer!

Thank you Helen. I will be sure to check out the site. I love the idea of using a chart with her. She adores stickers, so maybe that will be a motivator. Thanks again for sharing your great idea!!!
